Training Program on Machine Learning

Faculty of Computer Applications & IT organized a four days Online Short Term Training Program on Machine Learning from 9th to 12th February 2022.

The inaugural function on 9th February was graced by Dr. Chandni Kapadia, Executive Director, GLS University, Dr. Dharmesh Shah, Registrar GLS University, Dr. Savita Gandhi, Dean - FCT & FCAIT, Dr. Harshal Arolkar, Professor & Head - PG Programme in virtual presence of all the eminent speakers from across India, participating candidates and Dean, Directors, Heads and Faculties GLS University.

Day 1 begun with session delivered by Dr. Devarshi Mehta, Associate Professor, FCT, GLS University. She introduced the participants to the fundamentals of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning. Dr. Harshal Arolkar, Professor and Head, PG Programme, FCT/FCAIT and Dr. Jyotika Doshi, Retd. Associate Professor, FCT, GLS University, then took a session on Need of Probability in ML and Regression and its application area. Dr. Pooja Ajwani ended the day with a very interesting demonstration of practicals based on Python Essentials, Importing and Exporting data from multiple sources using python libraries, and examples of probability and statistics.

On 10th February 2022, Dr. Savita Gandhi, Dean, FCT & FCAIT, GLS University, explained the concepts of Supervised Machine Learning that included topics of Likelihood function, Maximum Likelihood Estimation, Classification, Logistic Regression, Confusion Matrix, Performance Evaluation Metrics, ROC and AUC.

Dr. Sanjay Jain, Associate Professor, Dept. of Comp. Sci & Engg., ITM University, Gwalior (MP), further elaborated the concepts of Supervised Machine Learning and discussed concepts like SVM, Multi-Class SVM, Decision Trees, K-NN, Ensemble Approaches, Bagging, Random Forest, Boosting: Ada boost and Gradient Boosting and Applications.

Dr. Preeti Kathiria, Assistant Professor, Nirma University, gave an elaborate demonstration of practicals based on Implementation of Supervised Machine Learning Algorithms to conclude Day 2.

Day 3 began with an enthralling session by Dr. Jyoti Pareek, Professor & Head, Gujarat University. She introduced the concepts of Un-Supervised Machine Learning like Clustering and its different approaches with Applications, Partitioned Clustering, Fuzzy clustering, Hierarchical Clustering Algorithm to the participants.

Dr. Sonal Jain, Professor, JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur, took the session ahead and discussed topics like Feature Scaling and Wrapper methods, Embedded methods, Dimensionality Reduction. Day 3 ended with practicals based on implementation of Un-Supervised Machine Learning Algorithms, the session was conducted by Mr. Divakar Pandey, Software Engineer, Visible Alpha Inc.

On the final day Dr. Mayuri Mehta, Professor, Sarvajanik College of Engg. & Tech., Surat delivered an insightful session on Machine Learning in Healthcare: Emerging Trends and Future Opportunities.

Dr. R. Balasubramanian, Professor, Dept. of Comp. Sci & Engg., IIT Roorkee showcased an excellent collection of Applications of Machine / Deep Learning in Imaging and Vision, He showcased his ongoing projects to the participant and gave them a road map of how research in ML can be done.

A session on Azure Machine Learning was conducted by Mr. Shamik Misra, Senior Escalation Engineer, Microsoft India Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Prabhat Tandon, Escalation Engineer, Microsoft India Pvt. Ltd. They explained how Microsoft Azure assists in implementing different models of ML.

More than 170 participants from 29 Universities across India had registered for the Online STTP. The event was supported by SYBGEN INC. Dr. Krupa Mehta conducted the valedictory session and proposed a vote of thanks. 10 participant received a SYBGEN INC voucher for acquiring a ML certificate. Overall the STTP received an encouraging feedback from all the participants. The STTP was coordinated by Dr. Pooja Ajwani, Assistant Professor, FCT.
