‘Innovision – Inovate Within You’ - The Management Club

Management club aims at beyond the class- room learning, promoting the creative bent and inventive thinking. Different events are conducted under Management Club such as role plays, guest lectures, educational visits to management institutions, debates, quiz, case analysis, management competitions such as Ad-Mad, Brand War, Business Plan etc. have a bearing on every functional area of management. Management club educates the students by enhancing their professional skills in understanding the subjects and consolidates the concept and methods of modern management and thus helps them to build and develop decision-making and leadership skills. Many events are organized including AMA(Ahmedabad Management Association) visit : a study enhancement programme and a visit to radio city 91.1 FM. Other activities wherein students were guided for inter-college competitions like Vishleshan- converse, conserve, convert, (a national management festival encompassing events like Business Plan, Case Analysis, Quiz, Poster Making and many more) where students were given a task to do the research on some great marketing tactics and campaigns. The club regularly organizes training and practice sessions to groom the students for inter-collegiate state and national level competitions in which they have brought accolades and laurels to the college.

 

Statstorm - The Statistics Club

Statistics Club aims to strengthen the process of teaching and learning of Statistics through the integration of applications of statistical tools and techniques in real life and research projects by conducting expert lectures, workshops and educational visits for the development of Statistical Activities.

CLUB ACTIVITIES:

  • Every year World Statistics Day is celebrated on 20th October in association with Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Gandhinagar by organising various Inter Collegiate events like Statistical Quiz, Statistical Games, Poster Making etc. with an objective to bring awareness and applications of Statistics in the real world. 
  • The Statistical Games are organized with an objective to impart and sharpen the basic concepts of Statistics and Mathematics through various fun activities. The games are based on the basic concepts of Statistics like arithmetic, algebra, measures of central tendency and dispersion, permutation, combination, correlation, regression, probability, probability distributions, time series, Index numbers and so on.
  • Data Analysis Workshop through Micro Soft Excel- Visualising, modelling and interpretation are the major aspects of data analysis and students need to understand the intricacies of the methods of Data Analysis through various Statistical tools. Objective of Data Analysis Workshop is to acquaint the students about data, its analysis, interpretation and its business prospects in the near future as in today’s world Data is increasing rapidly through thousands of users, businesses and industries as a whole.
  • Research Projects and Research Papers- The research group under Statistics Club aims at balancing between quality and quantity by keeping pace with the current flow of information and knowledge. Students are taught to prepare research projects and research papers by collecting primary and secondary data, analysing the data and draw conclusion followed by research paper presentations.
  • Expert Lectures - Expert lectures of stalwarts like Shri S. S. Suthar, Director, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Gandhinagar, Shri Reshmikhant Pandya Ex. Director of Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Dr. Shweta Patel, A Senior Research Assistant from PERD etc.; on Statistics and its appplications in real world for the development of statistical activities.
  • Industrial Visit to Sardar Patel Institute of Economics and Social Research (SPIESR); ISRO; Bureau of Statistics and Economics at Gandhinagar, IIM Ahmedabad and Institute of Rural Management (IRMA).
  • Workshop on the Use of Statistics in Clinical Research was conducted by Prof. Shweta Patel, a senior research assistant at PERD.
  • A reference book of statistics was launched by the students and for the students by a team of 25 students which consisted of more than 300 solved questions with brief summary and short cut methods of solving examples in 2015.
  • Students of Faculty of Commerce performed presentation and symposium at two days multidisciplinary national seminar on ‘Discourses on Indian Politics: Post Coalition Issues of Development and Technology’ organized by Study Abroad Program Department of Gujarat University at University convection hall in 2014.

 

‘Arthshashtra’- Economics Club

Economics is the mother of all the subjects in commerce. Economics is the study of all components of development and growth at micro and macro level. So, this club is formed to throw a light on this important subject by co-relating practicality in study.

The main objective behind launching Economics club is to generate interest towards the subject among students and motivate them to participate in various activities like quiz, debate, practical application of economics through presentation on different current aspects, animation and you-tube videos, visiting research institutions etc. Every year, the club organizes ECO-FESTs (economics festivals) such as, Rock-on-omics and Arthshashtrotsav at inter collegiate, state and national level.

LEARNING NEW ERA ASPECTS OF ACCOUNTING, TAXATION, FINANCE

Faculty of Commerce thinks out of box and goes beyond Traditional Teaching. Apart from Conceptual learning through syllabus, students are given practical exposure by giving various opportunities at real life field area.

‘Word Wizards’- English & Reading Club

‘Word Wizards’-English & Reading Club aims to strengthen the process of teaching and learning English language through the integration of communication and information technologies, arts and the promotion of the institutional values. The purpose is to create an opportunity for the students to become enthusiastic and enthralled with wonderful world of literature and enable the participants to increase their exposure to the English language thereby giving them first class opportunity to improve their standard of English Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.

CLUB ACTIVITIES

  • ‘Readers Are Leaders’ - everyday a new thought and a new word along with the meaning are written on the notice board for the language enhancement of students.
  • “Manthan: A Thought Provoking Mission” - It is a two tier, an inter-class elocution competition. The aim of this competition is to remove stage fear and improve oratory skills of the students. This competition has two rounds: Primary and Finale.
  • Readathon Competition (Best Reader of the year)-Readathon is a competition which inspires students to read as much as they can, all for an incredible cause. Reader of the year award is awarded to the students who read most number of books and utilize other library resources and services in the most effective manner. The objective of Readathon is to motivate the students to improve their English reading skills, creativity and original thinking, to encourage the students to visit library frequently and develop a taste of variety of subjects.
  • Guest Sessions on Public Speaking & Improving Communication Skills, Reading Habits

 

‘Abhivyakti’- A Theatre Club

Faculty of Commerce provides a platform to Theatre Enthusiasts. We help the students to develop Self Confidence and Public Speaking ability of the students.

‘ABHIVYAKTI’ - A THEATRE CLUB imparts learning of basics of theatre, music, dance, creative writing and stagecraft. Various aspects of drama, including acting, voice modulation, breathing control and reflex enhancing are taught. Every year “ABHIVYAKTI: A FINISHING WORKSHOP IN THEATRE” is organised. The purpose of the workshop is not only to stimulate student's creativity and thought process and sensitize them towards various issues but it also explores the unexplored or hidden ability by shedding the inhibitions associated with performing in front of an audience. Through “ABHIVYAKTI: A FINISHING WORKSHOP IN THEATRE”, we believe that creativity can flourish, academics can be enhanced, and means of self-expression can be developed. This Club has led to around 23 One Act Play productions, Skit, Mime, Street play and Mono Acting Performances which have won accolades for Faculty of Commerce in various State level and National level theatre competitions.

Faculty of Commerce participated in various prestigious State level One Act play competitions like INT (Indian National Theatre, Mumbai) & Gujarat Samachar Drama Competition, Veenaveli Drama Competition, Inter-college Youth Festival, ‘Synapse’- inter- college competition at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of technology (DAIICT), Gujarat Rajya Sangeet Natak Academy Drama (One Act) Competition & ‘Aarangam’ - a drama competition from last 2 decades and have consistently bagged the Best Play Awards and many other awards like Best Lights, Best Actor (Male & Female), Best Director, Best Script etc.

 

‘Nartnaad’- A Folk Dance Club

Folk dance helps to preserve the cultural unity of the people. People have been doing folk dances for hundreds of years and there is value keeping that tradition alive. And with the same motive Nartnaad Club of Faculty of Commerce organizes the workshop of Folk dance for the students, in which various experts come to teach students Garba. From basic to advance everything was taught to the students including various techniques of garba which can never be seen in the clubs, different positions and even the minute details were taken care of. Students also learnt how folk dance inculcates discipline, dedication and love of art in one’s mind. Various award holders and celebrities spared their valuable time for the students and solved their queries in order to make them learn what folk dance is all about. Students are encouraged to participate in prestigious inter collegiate Folk Dance competitions.

 

‘Steps N Style’ – A Western Dance & Fashion Show Club

Steps N Style club aims to engage the participants in dance, grooming, and performance with rigor and curiosity and to build and strengthen students’ creative skills in live performances. Steps N Style club organizes various Workshops, Annual Function [CulFest] FACETS and encourages students to participate in various intercollegiate and national level competitions. The Club every year organizes ‘One week’ Western Dance and Fashion Show Workshop in which more than 100 plus students actively participate. The purpose of this workshop is to enhance confidence and remove stage fear. The workshop includes theoretical and practical training about various dance forms like Hip hop, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, salsa, crumping, fusion and Bollywood by ace choreographers. Students are also made to dance on the given steps in the smaller groups of 3-4 each to bring out the finesse. Various international fame fashion choreographers share their success story and practically demonstrated how to walk on the ramp and also give one to one tips to all the aspiring models and laid emphasis on body language and confidence. Workshop is very interactive session in which students also put up their queries related to grooming and the ramp walk training. In FACETS – FOC CulFest all the students who are part of workshop get a stage exposure at well known auditoriums of the city. Faculty of Commerce has not only participated but has won various events at JOSH, IIMA- Chaos, Westside, Raaga n Rock, to name a few.

 

‘Harmony’ – The Music Club

Faculty of Commerce has always looked to nurture the musical talent of the students by organising various events and workshops. By creating a band comprising of the students of Faculty of Commerce, the club provides platform to the singers and musicians of Faculty of Commerce to perform on stage and showcase their talent.

‘The Art Studio’- A Fine Art Club

 The Art Studio is a fine art club of Faculty of Commerce. It is created to nourish the artistic and creative side of the students and to provide them platform to showcase and sharpen their creative skills. Several activities throughout the year are organized to encourage students to express their thoughts, feelings and creativity through the various art forms. Different workshop is organized each year in which experts guide the students to learn various techniques and the nuances of photography. The club strives to bring the latent talents of the students to limelight.

‘Cinemates’- The Movie Club

Learning from various mediums of expressions has been an integral part of education. With this understanding, CINEMATES – The Movie Club is formed at Faculty of Commerce to screen movies every fortnight.

Informal education is an essential part of the modern studying process. Organizing a fun movie club is a great method for bringing informal education into the classroom and creating a more meaningful bond with the students which is the key to active and engaging teaching.

The purpose of this club is mainly learning through interaction and discussion. The activities carried out by the Movie Club will encourage students to develop a different perception towards films. The movies screened mainly focuses on life skills, socially relevant issues and managerial skills like leadership, team spirit, group dynamics, creativity, self-motivation etc. Screening of movies like ‘The Namesake’ which are based on novels and are a part of the syllabus too is organized. We even invite the directors and makers of films and documentaries to educate the students regarding various aspects of movie and documentary making.

 

‘Enigma’- A Quiz Club

ENIGMA: The Quiz Club of Faculty of Commerce aims to identify students who have a flair for quizzing among the students who join the college every year. It is designed as an innovative and interactive activity to facilitate a copious flow of knowledge and ideas among the students packed in exciting rounds.

Forum For Gandhian Philosophy

In today’s time, the youth is gradually forgetting the values and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. It is said that the three main principles of Gandhiji: Truth, Nonviolence and Cleanliness are the most relevant and the most required principles for the world to survive today. To inculcate the values of Mahatma Gandhi among the young students and to inspire them through the life and lessons of Gandhiji, various events and activities are organized.

CLUB ACTIVITIES:

  • Visit to Sabarmati Ashram, Kocharab Ashram, Mahatma Mandir
  • Celebration of the Gandhi Jayanti with various competitions, talks, guest lectures, quizzes etc. Paying tribute to Gandhiji on his death anniversary

Swami Vivekanada Study Circle

Faculty of Commerce has been running Swami Vivekananda Study Circle since 2011. The circle aims at spreading and preaching the spirit of universal brotherhood and propagating and imbibing the great ideals of Swami Vivekananda. Through various activities, Swami Vivekananda Study Circle shares Swami Vivekananda’s progressive ideas of power, glory, goodness and purity among the students and also imprint on their young minds the idea that instilling Swamiji as the living ideal in their lives make for them a glorious future. Books on Swami Vivekananda are purchased in the library.

Sports Club

The SPORTS CLUB @ Faculty of Commerce provides platform to the students for various indoor and outdoor sports activities. Every year various sports activities are organized for the students to cultivate sports environment amongst them. The main objectives of Sports Club are:

  • Playing a sport is a great way for students to take a break from academics and release the pent-up energy.
  • It also helps them lead fuller and happier lives as regular sports and fitness activities have proven to provide not only physical benefits but also social and psychological benefits to students
  • Several studies suggest playing sports develops a students’ self-confidence and self-esteem.
  • Every sport requires some mental, physical and tactical discipline and patients.
  • “There’s no I in team”. Students learn that the team cannot win unless they all work together and play to each other’s strengths.
  • In sports, just like in life, one cannot win all the time. Playing a sport teaches children this truth early on in life.

Yoga Club

Yoga is an ancient practice that has been flourishing for years as it maintains both physical and mental well-being. The word “Yoga” was first mentioned in the ancient sacred text of ‘Rig Veda’. Yoga comprises a group of physical, mental, and spiritual activities and disciplines. Each Yogic activity is a key to improving flexibility, strength, balance, and attaining harmony. The Yoga club of Faculty of Commerce is actively involved in organising various events, workshops, and webinars. The prime objective of the club is to spread awareness regarding the immense benefits of yoga as it improves concentration, helps us to achieve tranquillity, provides relief from anxiety, improves posture and balance, improves breathing, builds muscle strength, and boosts immunity levels, etc...

Aims and Objectives

  • To train young, intelligent and educated students into basics of Yoga with all its pure and pristine form.
  • To acquaint them with prominent features of all cultures so as to enable them to perceive broader horizons of Yoga encompassing all world cultures.
  • To enable them to discover Yogic tenets in their own cultures.
  • To get them well grounded in a cultural synthesis so that they may strive not only to lead a well integrated life themselves but also to teach others to attain the same to establish brotherhood of man on the face of the earth.
